Worked examples
Scores below are base points from the letter values above. Bonus squares on the board are not included, but the 50-point bonus for using all seven tiles is.
Rack: A E I N R S T
These seven letters are famous among Scrabble players because they make several seven-letter words, each worth 7 points plus the 50-point bonus, for 57 in total: RETAINS, NASTIER, RETINAS, RETSINA, STAINER, ANTSIER. Keeping letters like these on your rack and swapping out awkward ones is the core of good Scrabble strategy.
Rack: Q U I Z E A T
| Word | Points |
|---|---|
| QUIZ | 22 |
| QUIET | 14 |
| QUITE | 14 |
| QUAI | 13 |
| QUIT | 13 |
| ZETA | 13 |
QUIZ uses both ten-point letters, which is why it beats longer words like QUIET. When you hold a Q or a Z, a short word that uses it usually scores more than a long word that leaves it on your rack.
How to score more
- Use all seven tiles for a 50-point bonus. Search your whole rack and look for seven-letter results.
- Play high-value letters (J, Q, X, Z) on double and triple letter squares.
- Short words with X or Z, like AX, OX, ZA and ZO, score well in tight spots.
- Hooking an S onto an existing word scores both words.
- Keep a balanced rack. Two or three vowels with common consonants make it far easier to play all seven tiles.
- Don't hold the Q for too long without a U. If you have no U, look for words like QI or swap tiles.
High-value two-letter words
These short words use J, Q, X or Z and are in our word list: QI, ZA, ZO, XI, XU, AX, EX, OX, JO, JA. Rules differ between word lists and games, so check them against the list your game uses.
Scrabble and Words With Friends
The finder works for both games, and for any game where you build words from a set of tiles. Words With Friends uses different points for some letters and its own word list, so the totals here may not match the app exactly. For finding which words your letters can make, the results are the same.

Questions
How are the points calculated?
Each word shows its base score using standard Scrabble letter values. Blank tiles score zero. Bonus squares on the board are not included.
Is every word valid in Scrabble?
Our list is a broad English dictionary, so most results are playable, but a few may not be in the official tournament list. Check doubtful words before a competitive game.
Does it work for Words With Friends?
Yes, for finding words. Words With Friends uses slightly different letter values, so the point totals may differ.
What is the highest-scoring Scrabble word?
On a real board the biggest scores come from bonus squares and the 50-point bonus for using all seven tiles, not from the word alone. A seven-letter word on two triple word squares can score well over 100 points.
Is using a Scrabble word finder cheating?
In a friendly or competitive game, using it during play breaks the spirit of the game unless everyone agrees. It is a great way to review a finished game, practise, or settle an argument about whether a word exists.
What are the best two-letter words in Scrabble?
Short words with high-value letters, such as QI, ZA, ZO, XI, XU, AX, let you score in tight spots. Check that each is allowed in the word list your game uses.
How do I use a blank tile?
Type a question mark for each blank tile in your rack.
